Text, cyanotype, and sculpture interweave to create a structure in the shape of the human womb, large enough for a person to sit within. The fragments of text come from memory, half-remembered poems and prose that I often repeat to myself. These phrases provide me daily comfort and peace in the midst of chaos. This sculpture is my attempt to translate this feeling outside myself.
Created as part of Forest For Trees May 2025 Residency on Governors Island
Making The Word Womb involved cyanotyping 50 pages of text, transfering these onto a wire frame, adhering the pages together with wheatpaste, and then removing the frame.
The design centered biodegradable and re-usable materials.
